The French School

The French School of Cape Town is a private, co-educational school offering students a superlative, multicultural, and strongly academic, international education from ages two to eighteen. A focus on academic excellence, with a commitment to civics and sport, creates well-rounded, confident children able to claim their place in the world.
The French School is run by a formal association of parents, supported by the French Government. Our internationally recognised qualifications give access to the best schools and universities in the world.
Situated across two campuses on the Atlantic Seaboard and in Cape Town, the school’s syllabus is run under the auspices of AEFE, the world’s largest network of schools with a single curriculum in almost 600 schools across more than 140 countries. This provides a seamless, stress-free process throughout the world for mobile families as well.
We have over 350 students, representing more than 30 nationalities. About half our students are from the EU, with the balance from South Africa, the rest of Africa and the Middle East. This means your child is educated in a strongly international environment, with all the benefits that this brings to social and cultural development.
We have three internationally recognised diplomas; the French baccalauréat, the British International Section and the Cambridge International examination, all three of which open the doors to study at all international universities.

"Every student who leaves our school becomes a wonderful ambassador for the French school and culture wherever they go!"

A Word from Our Headmaster

Dear All,
Our school, Lycée Français International du Cap, upholds the values of cultural divesity, benevolence and excellence that are the hallmark of the French system.
Within the AEFE network which represents 390,000 students and 566 schools throughout the world, our school welcomes approximately 360 students (from about 30 nationalities), all of whom benefit from an education that conforms to the French International curriculum. The teaching is organised partly in French, and partly in English. For those who do not speak either French or English, we provide personalised support with a step-by-step integration into all the classes within a few months of their arrival. In this way, our pupils are citizens of the world, able to integrate into another system from an early age.
The recent “British International Section” certification at both primary and secondary levels allows students who leave the city to enroll in any French or English-speaking school worldwide without any prior test. We also validate this level through Cambridge tests. Our French International Baccalaureate opens the gate to more than 400 universities. The contribution of our English-speaking teachers, who specialise in British literature, History and Geography, enables our students to continue to progress in the local language while achieving a level of excellence in French.
Every student who leaves our school becomes a wonderful ambassador for the French school and culture wherever they go.
Whether you are French-speaking or not, regardless of your age or previous schooling, our institution will welcome you. We are one of the best places in South Africa to learn French, but also one of the best places to learn English. Our students have a balanced mastery of both, which they will keep all their lives.
Samuel Jourdan, Headmaster
